Leadership New Jersey takes leaders where they have never been to help them envision where the state can go.Participants explore the State House and a maximum security prison...a city emergency room and a symphony hall...the streams of the Pinelands and the streets of Paterson...an Atlantic City casino and a Camden school room. Leadership fellows talk with legislators and lobbyists, mayors and homeless families, judges and cops, cabinet officials and probation officers, reporters and cardiologists. They experience the issues and trends that most concerned citizens only read about. In monthly seminars participants probe today's problems and tomorrow's prospects with current leaders to sharpen their understanding of statewide issues. The seminars combine field visits, case studies, debates, and simulations with dialogues and panel discussions. They offer hands-on experience to those impatient with talk and dissatisfied with theory. Specialists and officials chosen for their personal experience and contrasting views lead many of the seminars' discussions. ![]() Subjects covered include:
Time Commitment:The seminar series begins with a two day retreat in late January. Subsequent sessions are held on weekdays (except July and August) and last for a day and a half to two full days. Graduation is in early December. A total of approximately 20 days is involved during the year. Seminars take place around the state to provide participants with direct experience of the issues. |
