LNJ Future Commission

Leadership New Jersey is engaging participants, alumni, speakers, and interested individuals in identifying the greatest successes of the LNJ program, and developing a future vision in its service to the state. The LNJ Future Commission will submit at the Celebration of Leadership on Thursday, December 4, that will improve the LNJ Seminar program and enhance the graduate experience for the next two decades! The plan is to interview Fellows and other key leaders in New Jersey over the next two months, convene focus groups and other sessions in May and June to review responses and synthesize data, and provide recommendations in the Fall. We need you to ensure our success!

There are several parts to this commission:

THE INTERVIEW PROCESS

  1. LNJ fellows are volunteering their time to interview graduate fellows about their LNJ experience. Not all fellows will be interviewed, but those who are will add value to the commission's report.
  2. LNJ fellows will Interview seminar speakers on their commitment to the LNJ program and what keeps them coming back to speak to LNJ fellows year after year.
  3. Key influential figures in New Jersey will also be interviewed.

COMMUNITY FORUMS

LNJ fellows across the state will host three community forums (one in North Jersey, one in Central Jersey, and one in South Jersey) in which all LNJ fellows may take part to share their LNJ experiences in an open space. These forums will take place in late spring and early summer. Exact dates and locations, TBD.

A DRAFT REPORT will be written up by September 2008.

A FINAL DRAFT of the Commission's findings will be presented at the Celebration of Leadership on Thursday, December 4, 2008.

The LNJ Future Commission will utilize two important interviewing techniques, Appreciative Inquiry and Open Space Technology.

We are very thankful to Dr. Kate Kraft, LNJ '00 and Cassandra O'Neill of Wholonomy Consulting, llc for their guidance and services in this undertaking.

More about these methods:

Appreciative Inquiry This approach to change assists individuals and organizations identify what they are doing successfully so that they can do more of it. People build on their strengths to design a compelling future to move towards. AI has been used in many ways- to conduct evaluations, develop strategic plans, to coach others, transform performance reviews, develop teams and leadership, and more. For more information about AI go to: Appreciative Inquiry Commons at http://appreciativeinquiry.case.edu/

Open Space Technology This method is an alternative to traditional meeting and conference formats which encourages creativity, generates enthusiasm, and produces extraordinary results. People self-organize to discuss what is most important to them and generate action towards the results they want. For more information go to: http://www.openspaceworld.org

If you would like to take part in this endeavor by either being interviewed, interviewing, or by attending a community forum, please e-mail Sarah Slaiman Chebli, Program Manager, at sarah@leadershipnj.org.

If you do not have the time to attend one of our forums, but would like to complete and Appreciative Inquiry interview sheet on your own, please e-mail Sarah at sarah@leadershipnj.org and she will e-mail you an electronic version of our inquiry. Your answers will be compiled as a part of our findings.
